Part-time Communications Associate

About the Jews of Color Initiative 
The Jews of Color Initiative (JoCI) is the central organization supporting the U.S. multiracial Jewish community. The JoCI catalyzes leadership and organizational evolution through grantmaking, builds capacity and cultivates partnerships through research, convenes and connects vibrant multiracial Jewish communities, and advances a renewed vision for the Jewish community through thought leadership.

Position Summary 
The Jews of Color Initiative seeks a part-time, highly organized, detail-oriented communications professional to support the implementation of the organization's communications strategy and day-to-day communications activities. The Communications Associate will provide tactical communications, project support and coordination to help implement JoCI's communications strategy under the direction of the Director of Communications. This role will focus on content production, digital communications, social media management, website updates, and communications project coordination, enabling the Director of Communications to focus on organizational strategy, storytelling, and major communications initiatives. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and editor with an eye for design, an understanding of audience engagement, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. They should be comfortable balancing creative communications work with administrative and operational support tasks. 

This opportunity is a part-time role with an estimated 10-15 hours per week

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
The essential functions of this role include, but are not limited to: 
- Supporting the Director of Communications in the implementation of communications projects including copyediting, proofreading, writing support, and graphic design 
- Drafting, scheduling, and managing social media content across platforms
- Monitoring social media engagement, including responding to comments and direct messages with professionalism and care under the guidance of the Director of Communications 
- Assisting with updates to website content, including featured content, organizational announcements, event listings, and multimedia assets as requested by the Director of Communications
- Drafting and formatting email campaigns in Mailchimp related to programs, grantee announcements, research releases, events, op-eds, and organizational updates
- Supporting the development and production of JoCI's annual impact report, including compiling content from other team members, copy editing, and design support
- Assisting with internal communications 
- Maintaining confidentiality of highly sensitive information 
- Supporting communication workflows and administrative systems, including event registration platforms, Salesforce contact updates, Mailchimp subscriber lists, and related tools 
- Successfully prioritizing and addressing multiple competing needs and deadlines
- Other duties as assigned  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience, training, or demonstrated expertise in communications, marketing, journalism, design, nonprofit communications, or a related field 
- 2-4 years of professional experience in communications, digital media, marketing, or related work 
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and copy-editing skills with exceptional attention to detail 
- Experience drafting content for public audiences
- Demonstrated experience managing communications or writing projects and balancing multiple priorities simultaneously 
- Experience with graphic design platforms such as Canva
- Fluency with digital tools and platforms including Google Workspace, and social media platforms
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities 
- Demonstrated experience communicating with diverse audiences and across different aesthetics and styles
- Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling sensitive information 
- Positive past experiences working within complex, multiracial, and relationship-driven environments 
- Demonstrated alignment with and commitment to JoCI’s mission and values 

The Ideal Candidate Will: 
- Have familiarity with layout and visual storytelling strongly preferred
- Have familiarity with Mailchimp, Salesforce, WordPress or comparable website platforms preferred 
- Hold and approach the Initiative’s work with intentionality, care, professionalism, and discretion 
- Thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment that values creativity, flexibility, and iteration 
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail
- Work both independently and collaboratively with various team members 
- Receive and incorporate constructive feedback thoughtfully 
- Adapt quickly to changing organizational priorities and communications needs
- Communicate effectively across a broad range of audiences and stakeholders
- Navigate nuanced and sometimes complex conversations within Jewish communal life with thoughtfulness and professionalism 
- Work effectively in virtual environments and across multiple U.S. time zones 
- Have a positive attitude and cooperative professional orientation 
- Be comfortable in a community of people with diverse, complex, and sometimes conflicting viewpoints

Preferred Qualifications 
- Experience supporting nonprofit communications, advocacy, philanthropy, or mission-driven organizations 
- Familiarity with Jewish communal organizations, racial equity work, and multicultural community engagement 
- Experience with designing reports or other publications 
- Basic photography, video editing, or multimedia content creation skills are a plus

Compensation and Structure 
This position is expected to average approximately 10-15 hours per week at a rate of $30 per hour.
